Joe Biden is sworn as the 46th President of the United States

Joe Biden was sworn in Wednesday as the 46th president of the United States amidst a function in Washington D.C.

Biden’s oath of office was administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts in the presence of congressional leaders from both parties and former presidents including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
The ceremony, which was heavily guarded by 25,000 troops, took place on the steps of the US capital ahead of Biden’s inaugural address just two weeks after the seat of American democracy was attacked by pro-Trump rioter, leaving five people dead.

In a 20-minute address delivered in a conversational tone, he called on Americans to come together to tackle the pandemic and economic downturn during what he described as a “winter of peril and significant possibilities”.

US Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in before Biden at the ceremony. Harris officially have become the first female, first Balck and First South Asian vice president on Wednesday function.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime minister KP Sharma Oli have also extend congratulation to the President-elect of the US, Joe Biden, and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris.

PM Oli on his tweet said” I look forward to working closely with the new US leadership in further strengthening friendly ties between our two countries.”
