Biratnagar, January 12
The article of impeachment, accusing President Donald Trump of incitement of insurrection, has been submitted to congress on Monday.
Democrats claim the article is drawing the support from more than 200 Democratic lawmakers. Democrats say a vote on the article will go ahead in the House on Wednesday unless Vice-President Mike Pence invokes constitutional power to remove Trump from office.
The endeavor to impeach has just come a year after Senate Republicans absolved President Trump of Abuse of Power. His presidency is set to torment America up to and even beyond his final hours in power with Democrats moving relentlessly making him the first President to be impeached twice after he incited a mob assault on congress.
Before Trump came to Washington, only two Presidents had been impeached in the near two and half century history of the United States. The single charge points to Trump’s repeated false claims that he won the election and his speech to the crowd on January 6 before rioters breached the Capital.
The house will likely vote to impeach Trump only a few days before President-elect Joe Biden will take office one week from Wednesday. Democrats say taking no action against Trump before than raises the threat of more violence and lets the present off unscathed for spurring a mob that stormed the Capital.
The full house would need a 2018-vote majority to impeach Trump. The number could end up lower to due to vacancies and absences. Democrats hold 222 seats.
Although there are only eight days left for the Trump administration, impeaching him could bar him from public office in the future.
